Are you an experienced Mold Designer with strong VISI CAD skills and a hands-on understanding of mold construction? Do you enjoy solving tooling challenges and turning complex part requirements into practical designs?
APEX Placement & Consulting has partnered with an established company in Sterling Heights, MI, looking to add a Mold Designer to its team. In this role, you’ll design new molds, improve existing tooling, and collaborate with machining, EDM, engineering, and mold build teams to support quality and production goals.

What You’ll Be Doing
Create detailed mold designs, CAD models, and individual component drawings using VISI CAD.
Interpret customer-provided part geometry, layouts, and design requirements to develop functional, manufacturable tooling.
Design new molds and modify existing tooling to meet part specifications, production needs, and quality requirements.
Review part geometry, mold construction, and component tolerances to ensure proper fit, function, and assembly.
Prepare detailed drawings and technical documentation for machining, mold construction, assembly, and tryout.
Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues, identify root causes, and develop repair or modification solutions.
Provide design clarification and technical support to CNC machining, EDM, mold build, fitting, and assembly teams.
Collaborate with engineers, machinists, mold makers, and project managers to communicate design requirements and resolve challenges.
Improve existing tooling to increase performance, reliability, quality, and ease of maintenance.
Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, revisions, and tooling documentation.
What We’re Looking For
Proficiency with VISI CAD is required.
Previous experience in mold design and construction.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong understanding of mold function, component tolerances, and manufacturability.
Working knowledge of CNC machining, EDM processes, mold assembly, and tooling troubleshooting.
Ability to interpret part data, technical drawings, and design specifications.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
Proficiency with computers and CAD software.
