Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Accountant for a highly mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is a hybrid position requiring three days onsite and two days remote in Downtown Chicago. POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Accountant will support the organization’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations while partnering closely with the Controller and a small finance team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of accounting responsibilities, contribute to month-end, year-end, and audit activities, and help strengthen financial processes and systems. RESPONSIBILITIES Support the organization’s day-to-day accounting functions and overall finance operations, including month-end and year-end activities. Assist with year-end and audit-related activities by preparing financial information, documentation, and supporting materials as needed. Partner closely with the Controller and small finance team across a broad range of accounting responsibilities. Learn and support the organization’s allocation system and related financial processes. Participate in the implementation of a new Accounts Payable and expense management system, taking ownership of designated portions of the implementation. Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and systems while taking ownership of projects and additional responsibilities as knowledge and experience grow. QUALIFICATIONS Strong accounting fundamentals and experience operating at the Senior Accountant level. Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred; candidates from for-profit environments are welcome if they can adapt to a mission-driven nonprofit setting. Comfortable working in a lean organization where team members wear multiple hats and take ownership of varied responsibilities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Controller and colleagues. Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, processes, and responsibilities while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range for this position is $75,000-$80,000.
